‘Girl Meets World’ Finale Sneak Peek: Is This the End of Riley and Maya?


It’s the end of an era — or two. Less than three years after it took the Disney Channel by storm and stirred up all kinds of nostalgia for Boy Meets World fans, Girl Meets World is getting ready to say goodbye for good. The spinoff series, which has been a Disney Channel fan favorite since its debut in June 2014, will air a two-part finale that teases the Matthews family may be moving across the pond.
In this exclusive sneak peek at the finale episode “Girl Meets Goodbye,” London’s calling Topanga (Danielle Fishel) with a job offer, but it’s her daughter Riley (Rowan Blanchard) who’s calculating the logistics of the 3,459-mile distance from her New York bestie Maya (Sabrina Carpenter).
While Riley downplays any talk of “the end of Riley and Maya,” her blond BFF reminds her that their third best friend is totally out of their lives — and she only moved across the street.
Just like Riley’s move news is hitting Maya hard, news of the Girl Meets World cancellation hit fans hard earlier this month. The show’s writers tweeted the dreaded cancellation announcement just after the New Year, and Blanchard and Carpenter both posted reactions to the sad news. (Blanchard’s lengthy note to fans was especially poignant.)



Still, “Girl Meets Goodbye” is a supersized (and sweet) parting gift to fans. In addition to the regular cast, the final episode will feature the largest gathering of Boy Meets World cast members in the sequel’s history, including William Daniels (Mr. Feeny), Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter), Will Friedle (Eric Matthews), Anthony Tyler Quinn (Mr. Turner), William Russ (Alan Matthews), Betsy Randle (Amy Matthews), Lee Norris (Stuart Minkus), Danny McNulty (Harley Keiner), and both Lily Nicksay and Lindsay Ridgeway, the two actresses who played Morgan in the original 1990s ABC sitcom.
The Girl Meets World series finale, “Girls Meets Goodbye,” airs Friday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. on Disney Channel.
